Claude Fable 5 is here. Anthropic calls it their most capable model ever, but does it beat GPT 5.6?

Anthropic recently launched Claude Fable 5, calling it the most capable model they have ever released. It can run on its own for days.

Anthropic held an earlier version back after it found thousands of security flaws. Fable now reroutes risky cyber and biology requests to Opus 4.8.

In hands-on tests, reviewers gave Fable the edge on front-end design, on head to head game builds, and on reading what you actually wanted.

But it costs more. On API pricing, Fable runs about 50 dollars per million tokens, versus 30 dollars for GPT 5.6.

Reviewers landed the same place: Fable is the architect and manager, while cheaper, faster GPT 5.6 is the model they run every day.
